Valheim Bosses
Follow the documented boss path with encounter-specific preparation, attack responses, safe damage opportunities, and recovery options.
Prepare for the documented encounters
- Begin with Eikthyr, the first boss, in the Meadows; The Elder follows as the second boss and is found in Black Forests.
- For Bonemass, bring a Root Mask or Poison resistance mead. The encounter is balanced around this protection, and the mead reduces poison damage by 75%.
- Collect five Fuling totems to summon Yagluth. They are occasionally found in Fuling villages, so obtaining all five may require substantial exploration.
Respond to each attack opening
- Block any of Eikthyr's attacks with a Wood shield, then strike between attacks. Using these openings can bring the fight below three minutes.
- Against The Elder, use the four indestructible pillars around the altar as cover. In melee range, The Elder does not use the attack those pillars help you avoid.
- Prioritize Bonemass's summoned minions before they overwhelm you. His armpit-glob summon is generally aimed away from players and has a slow animation that leaves him vulnerable.
- Alternatively, back away during Bonemass's summon and attack the creatures when they land; Stagbreaker and Iron sledge are particularly effective for this response.
- Deal most of your damage to Moder in melee when she lands. Give her a flat approach path, because she may barely move before taking flight again if she cannot see one.
Build recovery into difficult attempts
For Moder, plan for weapons to break by placing a forge or portal nearby. Keep major structures out of her sight when possible: she may attack exposed structures, although she does not specifically target walls and roofing.
Start the Moder fight before late day. Night can make the encounter harder when dangerous creatures such as starred Wolves or Fenrings join the fight.
The Queen will not attack inside the arena entrance, making it a safe place to regenerate health. Summoned enemies can chase you inside, but no more spawn until you leave.
The Queen's rear may occasionally clip through the entrance wall and can be hit quickly, although relying only on this would take a very long time. After you remain in the entrance for a while, leaving causes her to roar and gives you time to hit her freely.
Build a mini-base just outside The Queen's entrance for faster health recovery, renewed Rested bonuses, gear repairs, and portal access. She waits before regenerating, so you can leave, heal, and return without a penalty during that interval.
